America’s Cup Building, Valencia’s Veles e Vents
Valencia, due to the good weather and constants winds, was selected for the 32nd America’s Cup in the 2007 and the architech who designed the Pavilion was David Chipperfield. The white and four floors impressive pavilon has a big architectural power, with a great set of angles and lights, it projects an impressive structure in the Port of Valencia.
Spectacular terraces flown into the sea, a long ramp that connect to the first floor and big platforms so that the public could observe the arrival of the teams.
Its name ‘Veles e Vents’ comes from a poem by Ausiàs March.
The design has won lots of architecture awards, including the 2006 Emirates Glass LEAF Award and the Royal Institute of British Architects European Awards in 2007. It was also nominated for the Stirling Prize in 2007.
As Glancey pointed out in The Guardian, “being here is like being on the deck of an ocean liner.”
10 minutes from the city center, Veles e Vents stands out on the horizon of La Marina de Valencia. Visitors can currently find three restaurants with different gastronomic proposals, La Marítima, Hoja Malabar and La Sucursal (Michelin star 2005 and two “Soles Repsol”, best restaurant in Gourmets magazine (2020), a concert hall, meeting rooms and covered and semi-covered terraces for the celebration of any company or private event that you wish to carry out.
